The Vice President-elect, Traditional Sports, Basheer Agusto has emphasised the need for the media to help report the activities of the sport to enable it assume more popularity in Nigeria and outside it.
Augusto decried the inability of traditional sports to feature at the African Games and he noted that something must be done to ensure that the sport is taken beyond Nigeria.
He noted that the sports can become exposed if the media beam their searchlight on the activities of traditional sports.
“It was a fair election, it was performed in good spirit and then because we all had some meetings about 2 or 3 days ago and we decided that whoever wins we are going to work together as a team. So there is a bright future for traditional sports,” Agusto told journalists.
“We need exposure. Because most people are not familiar with what traditional sports are. So we have to grab hold of the media and the Minister of sports to tell him that we need more exposure.
“It is not easy to get sponsors if they do not know about it, that is the main problem that we have. You might not know that in the African Games we don’t have a single African sport. So we as individuals and Nigerians are responsible to help us push these things out.”
