Trust Africa News, By Ayomide Otitoju
I write this very letter to inform you directly that major roads in the capital city of Ibadan is now a permanent dump site.
We now have unevacuated dump at major roads for instance just infront of our political hall , Mapo hall ,Elebu, Orita challenge, Ring Road, Molete ,Ojaba , Beere not to talk of the regular in between express from Iwo road to Academy bridge ( that has become embarrassment witnessed by all journeying through Ibadan)
We may need to immediately make the Oyo State Waste Management board to swing into action before we have cholera spread in our hand( and God forbid bad thing)
This embarrassing dirt is requiring a permanent solutions and I have below suggestions
Direct the Oyo state waste management to employ *Sanitation Marshals* with offices at various zones and we apportion specific areas to them . This will *facilitate employment opportunities*
The Government should get more *Waste disposal and collection materials* to be positioned at strategic locations in the capital and other cities
The Waste Management Board should be *seriously monitored* to put them permanently on their toes and work with deadlines with commensurate motivations.
The Government should institute *prize for sanitation* for neatest Local Government while Local Government should do same for *Neatest Ward* ( this will initiate competition for neatness)
The Government should constitute *powerful sanitation police* who will ensure surveillance and arrest of offenders of our environmental laws and fullest and serious compliance with monthly sanitation program.
The major Major markets should be given special and consistent attention as they constitute major source of dirt in the capital and other cities in Oyo state. This should be attached with *heavy sanction in case of non compliance including closeness of the market till compliance is extracted in writing from the stakeholders.*
I sincerely hope this letter get the deserving and speedy response .
