Bruno Labbadia, a German tactician, has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, Super Eagles.
The German was announced on the official handle of the Super Eagles on a microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).
The Morning Star reports that the 58-year-old German gaffer was appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in what brings closure to a long search for a a new sheriff in the national team.
How it began
It would be recalled that Labbadia’s predecessor, George Finidi, was handed a marching order by Nigeria’s football governing body following a lacklustre performance that brought the Eagles’ World Cup dream close to the brink.
In his brief stint as Eagles manager, Finidi, a former international and head coach of Enyimba FC, lost a WC qualifying game and drew another, drawing massive nationwide condemnation.
He resigned after losing the trust of this employer in a controversial shift that was highlighted by the currently embattled Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.
The African footballer of the year accused the Eagles legend of faking injuries, among other accusation.
Who is Bruno Labbadia
The German football manager is a former player who played as a striker. As a player, he won the DFB-Pokal in 1989-90 with FC Kaiserslautern and the Bundesliga in 1993-94 with FC Bayern Munich.
He was also capped twice for the German team. He last managed VfB Stuttgart.
The 58-year-old is married to Sylvia Labbadia, and the union is blessed with children.
