The incident was swiftly managed, with firefighters and first responders quickly extinguishing the flames. Viral videos captured the thick smoke billowing from the facility.
In response, Anthony Chiejina, a spokesman for the Dangote Group, reassured the public that refinery operations were not affected and there were no injuries or harm reported among the staff.
The $20 billion refinery, owned by billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, began operations last December with an initial capacity of 350,000 barrels per day. The refinery aims to reach its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of the year. Currently, it supplies diesel and aviation fuel to marketers in Nigeria, with petrol supply expected to commence in mid-July.
