Flights at Berlin Brandenburg Airport were halted on Friday morning due to a technical problem, a spokesperson informed AFP. The disruption led to delays in check-in and the cancellation of flight operations until 10:00 am (0800 GMT). The spokesperson could not specify when normal operations would resume.
This incident coincided with a large-scale IT outage affecting systems across Australia. The country’s national broadcaster, its largest international airport, and a major telecommunications company all reported issues.
The timing of the disruption, just before the first weekend of the school holidays in Berlin, coincided with US tech giant Microsoft announcing it was taking “mitigation actions” in response to service issues.
Additionally, the UK’s largest rail operator warned of potential train cancellations due to IT problems on Friday morning.
In a separate report, PUNCH Online highlighted that all flights from several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, were grounded Friday morning due to a communication issue, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The ground stop affects all flights from these airlines, regardless of their destination.
