As part of efforts aimed at engaging the youths and making them self-sufficient, members of the International Association of Lions Clubs Region 3 District 404A1 Nigeria, Gbagada Jasmine Lions club, recently organised a -day empowerment programme at Gbagada Senior Grammar School for youths with theme ‘’Effective learning and studying technique.’’
The Region 3 Chairperson, Lion Patricia Onuchukwu, said the youth empowerment programme is one of the club’s core activities in Lions Club International.
‘’We have brought youths to learn so that they can learn to be self-sufficient and be able to cater for themselves. The way Nigeria is now, you have to be self-sufficient even if you are a graduate.’’
Similarly, Lion Felicia Obilo, said August is International Youths Day so they decided to enlighten the youths on effective learning skills, prepare them for examination ,private study plans, note taking , group study and rest time management .
“Our major focus is that at the end of the empowerment programme we would have imparted more youths.”
Obilo, who is also the Lion Club member, disclosed that the club would do a follow up on the youths to ensure that they would be successful after the empowerment programme.
The President of the club, Lion Ada Okorie , said that the primary school is a foundation, Whose path has to be right. “We chose this primary school where the emphasis of learning starts first. This is because it is best to catch them young. This gesture is to help encourage young children to grow the habit of reading. We are also here to tell them that to learn how to read and write is one of the greatest gifts and skills to acquire in their journey of life,” she said.
The principal of the school, Babalola Modupe was elated to receive the club and pleaded with the club to take another round of visit. She stated that the gesture is well appreciated and would go a long way to inspire children to pay more attention to education.
