Nigerian mobile operator, Globacom, has launched the Glo Health Insurance package, a micro-health insurance plan developed in collaboration with AXA Mansard Health Insurance to provide accessible healthcare for its subscribers.
The Glo Health Insurance package leverages the extensive Glo mobile network to offer simple, affordable micro-health insurance coverage nationwide. Subscribers can access the service via SMS, USSD, and the web.
“Subscribers will be connected through a tele-consultation with a medical practitioner and have access to free drugs and treatment at thousands of pharmacies across the country,” Globacom stated on Tuesday.
Subscribers can choose from daily, weekly, and monthly subscriptions priced at N50 per day, N300 per week, and N750 per month.
“This service is designed for all age brackets and caters to all classes of Nigerians seeking affordable healthcare for themselves, family, and friends. The insurance packages allow subscribers to enjoy basic health consultations and medication without incurring additional costs. They also receive free medication up to a specified amount,” the company noted.
Additionally, subscribers have the chance to win up to N1 million monthly through a health insurance lottery that automatically enters them into weekly and monthly raffle draws. Any subscriber whose number is picked in the monthly draw will win N1 million.
“The objective is to reward subscribers whether or not they access the health insurance benefits, thereby providing a pay-back benefit,” Globacom explained.
Glo Health Insurance can be accessed by all Glo subscribers via SMS, USSD, and the Glo website. To select a health insurance package, subscribers can dial *3013# from their mobile phones.
Commenting on the launch, Chief Marketing Officer of AXA Mansard, Adebola Surakat, stated, “This product demonstrates AXA Mansard’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to affordable and quality healthcare. We are delighted to partner with Globacom on this project.”
“The combined purpose of AXA to act for human progress and Glo to make lives easier and better is at the heart of this product. Ultimately, Nigerians win, as this partnership will accelerate the agenda of universal health coverage. With this product, healthcare is now accessible to everyone, everywhere in the country,” Surakat added.
Deji Macaulay, CEO of Truthware Solutions, the technical designer and integrator of the solution, remarked, “This innovative service offers protection against a wide range of health risks, covering primary care and hospitalization. The product features easy enrollment, swift claim processing, and affordable premiums, making it accessible to millions of Nigerians. This cross-industry integration is set to revolutionize how consumers safeguard healthcare for themselves and their families.”
