Government Efforts to Curb Rising Food Prices Amid Inflation

As food inflation surpasses 40%, the Nigerian government has rolled out several programs to mitigate the impact on citizens. Minister of State for Agriculture Aliyu Abdullahi, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, expressed optimism that the situation would improve.

“Agriculture has a time frame. Now, a lot of production is ongoing. We are in the rainy season and if you look at the fields, there is a lot of cropping going on. Those croppings are not food,” Abdullahi said. He noted that these crops would only translate to food in about three months, suggesting that relief is on the horizon.

The minister also highlighted the government’s shift towards emphasizing dry season agriculture to ensure year-round food production, addressing past overreliance on the rainy season.
