Governor Abiodun highlighted the critical importance of the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway not only to Ogun State’s economic prosperity but also to the nation as a whole.
Reflecting on the efforts of both Ogun and Lagos State governments to assume control and rehabilitate the expressway, the governor expressed frustration over delays originating from the federal government, spanning from the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Abiodun noted that during President Bola Tinubu’s administration, renewed efforts were made to secure the road’s transfer to the states, eventually granted despite resistance from federal officials. Despite ongoing challenges regarding official transfer paperwork, the state government proceeded to award the reconstruction contract in May this year.
“The Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta road, a critical federal highway, has long been in dire condition, causing significant hardship for our people,” Governor Abiodun stated. “In collaboration with my counterpart in Lagos, we formally requested the transfer of responsibility to rehabilitate this road, a process that saw delays until the current federal administration. The contract for its reconstruction has been awarded since May.”
