Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has offered his condolences following the death of retired Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, a former Chief of Defence Staff who passed away on Sunday at the age of 75.
In his statement on Sunday to the family of Admiral Ogohi, Governor Ododo praised him as a distinguished figure from Kogi State and one of Nigeria’s most esteemed military officers. He highlighted Ogohi’s significant contributions to maintaining Nigeria’s unity amidst national challenges.
“Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi was a remarkable military leader and statesman dedicated to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians throughout his life,” Governor Ododo remarked.
“His illustrious military career was marked by profound sacrifices to uphold Nigeria’s unity, and in retirement, he continued to serve as an influential elder statesman, contributing immensely to the development of Kogi State and inspiring countless individuals nationwide.”
Governor Ododo expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that Kogi State had lost a distinguished statesman who held the best interests of the state’s people at heart. He fondly recalled Admiral Ogohi’s wise counsel in guiding critical decisions during his administration.
“We pray for the peaceful repose of Admiral Ogohi’s soul and offer solace to his family, who can take pride in his outstanding military service and statesmanship,” Governor Ododo concluded.
Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, born in November 1948, was Nigeria’s first naval officer to serve as Chief of Defence Staff, holding the position from 1999 to 2003 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, 2024, and has been laid to rest in his hometown of Okura Olafia, Dekina local government area of Kogi State.
