Over the weekend, Lagos State Government (LASG) reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing water tourism as a key driver of economic growth and tourism appeal. During the Fuji Fusion Lori Omi event aboard the MV Adimu Orisha barge, organized by Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson-Awoyinka emphasized the state’s commitment to transforming Lagos into a premier tourist destination.
Highlighting the event’s significance, Benson-Awoyinka underscored the government’s strategy to leverage waterways to stimulate employment and attract both local and international tourists. The gathering, which featured renowned Fuji artists including Pasuma, Malaika, and Atawewe, showcased Lagos as a vibrant hub of entertainment and cultural diversity.
Managing Director of LAGFERRY, Ladi Balogun, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts in fostering a conducive environment for stakeholders in the blue economy. Balogun outlined LAGFERRY’s comprehensive approach integrating transportation, tourism, and entertainment to optimize Lagos’s water assets.
In line with enhancing passenger experience, Balogun assured improvements in safety, comfort, and operational efficiency aboard LAGFERRY vessels. He highlighted plans to offer tourists unique views of Lagos landmarks like the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and Eko Atlantic City, contributing to traffic decongestion in the city.
General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, reinforced safety measures, citing ongoing sensitization programs and infrastructure enhancements aimed at ensuring safe waterway navigation for all Lagosians.
The Fuji Fusion Lori Omi event drew a diverse crowd, celebrating Lagos’s rich cultural heritage with performances by notable Fuji icons such as Pasuma Wonder, Malaika, and Atwewe Others were Biyi Omo Mummy and Mr Performer.
