The Lagos Judiciary has announced the commencement of its long vacation, set to run from Monday, July 22, 2024, to Friday, September 13, 2024, in accordance with Order 49 Rule 4 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure Rules, 2019). The announcement was made in a public notice signed by Acting Registrar Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, on behalf of Chief Judge Justice Kazeem Alogba.
During this period, designated vacation judges will handle urgent matters across the state’s seven judicial divisions. The Ikeja division will see Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe presiding from July 22 to August 2, followed by Justice Ibironke Harrison from August 5 to August 16. Justice Abdulfatai Lawal will take over from August 19 to August 30, and Justice Aishat Opesanwo will conclude the period from September 2 to September 13.
In the Lagos division, the corresponding periods will be covered by Justice Emmanuel Ogundare, Justice Serifat Sonaike, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, and Justice Olumuyiwa Martins. The Badagry Division will see Justice Matthias Dawodu presiding from August 5 to August 16, and Justice Obafemi Adamson from August 19 to August 30. Justice Wasiu Animahun and Justice Ganiyu Safari have been appointed for the Epe Division. In the Ikorodu Division, Justice Olufunke Sule-Amzat and Justice Rahman Oshodi will serve, while Justice Kudirat Jose and Justice Oyindamola Ogala will cover the Eti-Osa Division. Justice Animaun Bashua and Justice Kafeel Dawodu will handle cases in the Yaba/Surulere Division during the same corresponding periods.
The notice emphasized that despite the long vacation, the Criminal Division of the High Court of Lagos State may sit throughout the period. Urgent cases can also be heard by a judge during the vacation if all parties involved request it.
The long vacation will conclude on Friday, September 13, 2024, with the 2024/2025 Legal Year commencing on Monday, September 16, 2024. Additionally, New Legal Year services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2024.
