NCDC Reports Widespread Outbreak of Disease Across Nigeria

Jide Idris, Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), disclosed alarming statistics during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. He confirmed that the outbreak has spread to 187 local government areas spanning 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Idris highlighted that the majority of infections, approximately 83 percent, are concentrated in six states: Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Ebonyi, Katsina, and Zamfara. He attributed the spike in cases to factors such as persistent flooding in several states, consumption of contaminated food and water, and widespread open defecation practices.

In response to the escalating situation, Idris urged Nigerians to prioritize proper hygiene practices and remain vigilant against the increasing prevalence of communicable diseases during the ongoing rainy season.
