Amid preparations for a nationwide protest scheduled for August, the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has urged for calm and patience. In a statement released on Sunday, NCPC Executive Secretary Bishop Stephen Adegbite called on Nigerians to seek alternative methods for voicing their concerns.
Bishop Adegbite emphasized that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the welfare of citizens, noting, “Despite the difficulties, the President has been implementing palliatives across the states to alleviate suffering. I encourage us to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest and instead explore alternative channels for expressing our concerns.”
He urged for peaceful dialogue and constructive criticism, stating, “Let us engage in peaceful dialogue, constructive criticism, and collaborative problem-solving. We must work together to find solutions that benefit our nation as a whole. Nigeria is like a ship in a storm; we must work together to keep it afloat, rather than risking it being dashed on the rocks of unrest and chaos.”
Bishop Adegbite also called for continued prayers for the nation and its leaders, particularly President Tinubu, to receive wisdom and guidance during these challenging times. “Let us choose the path of peace, patience, and perseverance, and work together to build a better Nigeria,” he said.
In a related development, students from various tertiary institutions in Kaduna State have distanced themselves from the August 1st nationwide protest. During a summit focused on evaluating the achievements of the federal and Kaduna State governments in the education sector, students from Kaduna State University, Ahmadu Bello University, Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, and Kaduna State Polytechnic voiced their opposition to the protest.
The summit, organized to highlight the accomplishments of Governor Uba Sani’s administration and foster dialogue among students, policymakers, and other stakeholders, was attended by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement Asefon Sunday, and student union leaders from across Kaduna State. The event aimed to promote constructive discussion and address issues related to the planned nationwide protest.
