Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) have jointly inaugurated a state-of-the-art ICT Centre at Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG). The centre was officially opened on Thursday, as announced by NNPC Limited’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, via his X account on Friday.
Soneye highlighted that the initiative reflects the NNPC-SPDC Joint Venture’s longstanding commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
During the inauguration, NNPC Limited’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Bala Wunti, represented by Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services at NUIMS, emphasized the significance of the project. “Today’s historic inauguration of this ultra-modern ICT Centre at BASUG is a testament to the positive and sustainable impact of the oil and gas industry on Nigerians,” Wunti stated. He noted that the JV has consistently invested in impactful CSR initiatives across Nigeria for several decades.
Wunti further affirmed that the successful completion of the ICT centre exemplifies NNPC Ltd.’s dedication to sustainable development, enhancing access to quality education, and fostering innovation in Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to the local community for their support and hospitality throughout the project.
Wunti also called for ongoing support from the Bauchi and Gombe state governments, traditional institutions, and local communities, particularly for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project.
SPDC Managing Director and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, praised the inauguration as a significant social investment in North-East Nigeria. Okunbor acknowledged the collaborative efforts of both JV partners, noting that the project was driven by a vision to enhance educational infrastructure, support access to essential IT skills, and stimulate the growth of the IT ecosystem in Bauchi State and the broader region.
The cutting-edge facility includes a Wi-Fi lounge, computer laboratories, conference rooms, lecture halls, office spaces, and a combined 3D printing and hardware lab. Additionally, the centre is equipped with smart interactive boards and high-performance computers, creating an environment conducive to learning and innovation.
