Protesters Arrive at Unity Fountain, Some Blocked by Security

Some protesters have already arrived at Unity Fountain, but security has kept some of them out.

After the protesters made their demands, the gate was opened, and they used their trucks to block the entrance.

They are asking for payment of their four months’ unpaid salaries and a new agreement with the Federal Government from 2010, among other demands.

In 2022, there were major strikes by unions and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). SSANU and NASU had a four-month strike, while ASUU’s strike lasted eight months. President Bola Tinubu ordered payment for the affected staff, but SSANU and NASU members say they didn’t receive their wages, though ASUU members did.

Both unions have called for nationwide protests on July 9, with a major protest in Abuja scheduled for Thursday.
